Hello all, my name is Mr. Turnipseed and I'm an English teacher here at Arnold High School. Most of my students simply call me Mr. T or coach T. This is my second year of teaching and my tenth year involved with Arnold.
While I was born in Dothan, Alabama my education has been largely done right here in Panama City Beach. My education began at Patronis Elementary as a Golden Panther, then I went to Surfside Middle School as a Shark, graduated high school right here at Arnold, received my Associates degree at Gulf Coast State College, and earned my Bachelor's in English Language Arts Education at the University of Central Florida.
From an early age I always wanted to be a teacher. Helping others understand the work was always enjoyable for me and I have always had a desire to make a change. A former teacher of mine told me that he always felt if he could make the difference in even one student's life, then it would validate his entire career path. For me, this is my true goal as an educator. While English is important, it's critical for students to learn how to be better than those that came before them and how to grow from teens into legitimate individual thinking adults.
I am also the wrestling coach here at Arnold High School. This will be my 18th season (more years than almost all of my students have been alive) involved with wrestling in some capacity. Wrestling started for me in elementary school through the Black-and-Blue wrestling club that was held weekly at Everett Middle School under coach Cone. Then I wrestled for the Surfside Middle School Sharks and helped defeat Mowat in the first dual they had lost in eight years! Arnold High School was next where I, at the time, set a record for wins in bay county with 176. This record has since been passed by Richie McClanahan but it stood for a little over 6 years! Now the Arnold wrestling team has gone from two state placers in its history to well over a dozen. After Arnold I wrestled at the University of Central Florida and qualified for Nationals before tearing two ligaments in my shoulder. Since then I have been an assistant coach with Arnold and am now the head coach starting with the 2017-18 season.
Finally, I am the loving husband of Shaelan Turnipseed and we have two "fur babies" named Ezekiel and Zelda. Ezekiel is a pomeranian-american eskimo mix known as a "pomimo". Zelda is a poodle-bichon frise mix known as a "poochan". They're both very active and hyper dogs that keep us busy 24/7!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
